First Steps is Derbyshire only eating disorder charity which aims to help people in the surrounding area who have been affected my an eating disorder, whether this is themselves or families. The unique aspect about the charity is that the majority of staff and volunteers have had personal experience and are willing to offer advice and support to ANYONE and ANY AGE.
This charity has and continues to help my own struggle with anorexia with my long term aim being able to raise money for them especially through running. Without them, I would probably be in an eating disorders clinic and have a very different view to life that I do know. This blog and recovery account on Instagram @first_steps_to_running shows people all the first steps and the challenges someone with anorexia faces in recovery as well as all the positives that the process has taught me.
The charity has provided me with a unique one to one session with some one who understands exactly what I am going through. After being utterly disappointed by the NHS, I saw the need to start fundraising for this charity which is making such a big impact for so many. Eating disorders is a very complex thing but affects so many so I believe it’s time we started to sort out the services provided and raise awareness.
Each month I am doing something different to raise funds for the charity. I will keep this blog updated with my progress and give you a monthly update on what I have been up to.
Please don’t feel obliged to donate, I appreciate any support from just simply reading my blog but I do have a Just Giving Page and donating is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
